Questions

Frequently asked

What is pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing?

A PGx test reads genes that control how your body activates and clears medications. Providers use the results to choose drugs and doses that are more likely to work and less likely to cause side effects.

How is the sample collected?

With a simple cheek swab. No needles or blood draw. It can be done in a pharmacy, physician office, hospital unit or at a resident's bedside.

How long do results take?

Typically 5–7 days after the lab receives the specimen. SNF programs receive results by encrypted email or fax within 5–10 business days.

Is it covered by insurance?

Medicare covers PGx testing when a clinician is considering or using a specific drug with an actionable gene-drug interaction and needs the result for that decision. Medicaid and commercial coverage vary by state and plan. We verify coverage first and confirm any cost with the patient in advance.

Does the test need to be repeated?

No. Your genes don't change, so one test can guide medication decisions for life.
